Getting started as an investor can be a daunting task. You have to switch from the “Employee Mindset” to being your own boss. You have to work when no one is looking, and work on creating deals with money you don’t yet have but are confident you can get. This can lead to many people going into a deep hole called “Impostor Syndrome.” This is when you feel as if you are a fraud or not who you truly present yourself to be, and the person you intend to become. How does one cope with this when starting their ascent in business and personal development and how can you do it yourself? Hang tight and I will give you my approach to investor and success mindset.
If you want to be different, you need to be different!
To do something you have never done before you must DO SOMETHING YOU HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE. I know that sounds redundant but it is true, to create change in your life you must change. What does this means?
In short it means that you can no longer be the same person you were yesterday. You have to intact lasting and meaningful changes in your life to be successful This might mean;
- Waking up earlier
- Getting rid of vices in your life
- Scheduling your days out
- Working 2 jobs to facilitate your growth in business
- Studying others who came before you and copying their path
- Setting goals AND creating a plan to reach them
Although the list is short the result of exploring it can easily be a lifetime of self improvement as you make the changes in your life. Noting your weaknesses will give you the ability to grow into that new person you want to become.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
Although the process of change is difficult and daunting it must start with the first step. Taking the first steps can create that feeling of Impostor Syndrome as you are changing yourself. It is important when you start feeling this way you focus on getting through it and making your personal breakthrough. Remember you have to feel like you aren’t who you are trying to become, because you are becoming a new person!
Here are some simple and basic steps I like to get give to new Real Estate Investors
- Learn how to answer your phone professionally, you never know who is on the other side of the phone
- Answer every call on your phone, nothing to voicemail. (Don’t know the number, that might be a seller calling! ANSWER)
- Dress the part, every single day
- Drink Less, Workout More- Clear mind mean you can focus each and everyday
- Set work hours and set a schedule
- Goals must have a plan behind them
I can’t do this! Wait What?!? No No No, How Can I do this!
Entrepreneurs thrive off opportunity and opportunity comes when most don’t think something can be done or will be done. Entrepreneurs approach problems and turn them into opportunities for gain and maximization of their skills. The same is true for a real estate investor. Opportunity presents itself in many ways. One way might be a homeowner who can not fix up there home because they don’t have the skills or means. You approach the situation and create the opportunity by giving them money for the property, using capital to fix the home and profiting when the home is sold.
Now many stop when it gets to the CAPITAL comment up above. Using the excuse that they do not have money to make the deal happen. THIS is the wrong mindset to have, and will never get you anywhere in the business. Many people out there have money they want to put into deals that make sense and make money. Don’t know how to find them, Listen to this coaching call I did on financing deals. It is a fact that people that have had success over the years are looking for places to invest their money, but you need to know how to use it and make them a decent return. If your project makes sense, they will fund it.
